Drake After-Party Fatal Shootings Leave At Least Two Dead

Canadian rapper Drake held an after show party at the Muzik nightclub on Toronto’s Canadian National Exhibition grounds early today. For the second year in a row, Drake’s after-party has led to violence, and reports indicate that at least two people are dead and three are wounded. Police are saying that shooting broke out at Drake’s party inside the Muzik nightclub around 3:30 am.

According to CHCH Drake had been hosting his OVO Festival after-party at Muzik when shooting started inside the club and spilled out into the surrounding streets. One woman was confirmed dead at the scene of the shooting near the Dufferin Gates. A second person died in hospital shortly after arrival there. Another woman was shot in the leg and is expected to recover.

Police are investigating other shootings in the area that are also believed to be linked to the violence at Drake’s after-party at Muzik. It is not known at this stage whether Drake was at the club when the shooting, started but police believe that there may be more victims.

According to CBC News, Police Superintendent Frank Bergen said that Drake’s event was well run and that there were plenty of police officers in the area. Bergen said police are investigating reports of other shootings in the downtown area that may be related to the incident at Drake’s after-party.

As is often the case news of the incident at Drake’s party spread quickly on social media as twitter users posted pictures from the scene.

Amazingly there was also a shooting incident at Drake’s after-party in the same venue at almost exactly the same time last year. A man was injured in that shooting. It is not known if the incident at Drake’s party this year is connected or if it is some sort of revenge attack after last years shooting.

Rolling Stone reports that earlier in the evening Drake escalated his ongoing feud with fellow rapper Meek Mill. Meek recently accused Drake of not writing his own raps, something that is frowned upon in the hip-hop world. Drake responded by releasing two “diss tracks” aimed at Meek Mill. Last night Drake performed both tracks, “Back to Back” and “Charged Up,” as Meek-bashing memes flashed behind him on massive screens.

Drake rolled up to the show wearing a “free Meek Mill” T-shirt. Drake first wore the shirt when Meek Mill was incarcerated after violating a probation order last year. Drake also introduced a number of high profile guests including Kanye West during his performance.
