New York Mets Hold Sole Lead Of National League East After Blowout Victory Over The Marlins

After a 12-1 rout of the Miami Marlins on the road, the New York Mets now are all alone as the leaders in the National League East. At the same time as New York Mets fans were cheering, Washington Nationals were overcome with gloom after losing at home to the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 and losing their title as NL East leaders.

This win puts the New York Mets at 56-50 on the season. The Nationals are 54-50. This is the first time that New York has had sole possession of the division lead since June 19.

The Mets are on a magical streak after sweeping the Nationals at home over the weekend. The fans are giddy with excitement.

New York Mets rookie outfielder, Michael Conforto, got the scoring going after hitting his first career home-run, which scored Curtis Granderson and Travis d’Arnaud. The shot to right-center field measured 435 feet, not bad for his first major league home-run. Hopefully, the first of many. Conforto made it clear with this shot that he wants to stay in the majors for a long time. This moonshot gave the New York Mets their 18th home run in half as many games.

Before bringing Juan Uribe, Kelly Johnson, and Yoenis Cespedes and the return of Travis d’Arnaud, the Mets had gone through a strenuous period from June 28 to July 7 with zero home-runs.

The New York Mets’ newest import, Yoenis Cespedes, played some of his best baseball on Monday. Cespedes went 3-for-5 with three doubles and four RBI. Yoenis is now the leader in doubles in the majors.

Not only did the Mets hit spectacularly, the pitching was superb. Bartolo Colon started the game on the mound, coming off seven starts where he was 0-6 with a 6.16 ERA. Colon struck out five batters and gave up five hits that amassed to only a single run. Colon had a shutout going into the eighth inning before giving up an RBI double to Christian Yelich. Monday was Colon’s first win since June 12.

On Tuesday, Jon Niese will face off against Brad Hand of the Miami Marlins. First pitch is set to be at 7:10 p.m. ET.

Do you think that after the sudden turn of events in their play that the New York Mets will make it to the postseason? If so, how do you think the team will fare in the playoffs. Also, will the New York Mets make it as a wild card or a division champion?
