Sofía Vergara On Being Compared To Kim Kardashian: ‘I Think I Beat Her Once Or Twice’

There are many successes Sofía Vergara can claim from being the highest paid television actress to being ranked Forbes’ 32nd most powerful woman of 2014, but perhaps the oddest honor for Sofía is being pitted against Kim Kardashian in a sexiest a** competition.

“I’m going up for sexiest a** against Kim Kardashian and she’s, like, 10 years younger than me,” 43-year-old Vergara says on the topic of being featured in sexiest women polls. “She should be upset she’s up against me. I think I beat her once or twice.”

Sofía adds that she’s an avid admirer, adding that she has met Kim at gatherings.

“I’ve met her at red carpet things and she is just the most beautiful women anywhere… so somebody is going crazy to put me on these lists.”

It seems clear that Vergara has a humble opinion of her own appearance and as Sofía explains, she feels that her looks are all too exaggerated to be taken seriously.

“Sometimes I look in the mirror and think I look like a drag queen,” Sofía says. “I’m a woman, but I’m very exaggerated with my boobs, my ass, how I do my make-up, and my accent, of course.”

While Sofía Vergara has been starring in the ABC comedy Modern Family since 2009, she used her break from the sitcom to film Hot Pursuit, which was released on May 8 in theaters. Latin born Vergara starred alongside Reese Witherspoon and Sofía admits Witherspoon was a source of amusement during the filming.

“I think one of the funniest moments for me was when [Reese] speaks Spanish, which was ridiculous.”

Sofía credits her family and her heritage for her sense of humor, explaining that being born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia gave her the ability to appreciate life and find humor in almost any situation.

“I think my family’s really funny,” Ms. Vergara said. “Colombian people need that because we come from times that were tough, and sometimes the only way to survive that was to make fun of ourselves and those situations.”

Sofía adds that her Latin heritage and her thick accent were a hindrance, when she first arrived in Los Angeles and began auditioning for roles.

“When I first moved to LA and I started to audition, I got nothing,” Ms. Vergara explained. “There was nothing for Latin women, and especially for someone with my strong accent. I thought, ‘I’m going to have to change how I talk.'”
