Return Of The Lizard Man? New Photo And Video Surface In South Carolina

A new photo emerged over the weekend purporting to show South Carolina’s legendary Lizard Man, and it has inspired a local man to share video of the fabled beast, reportedly captured earlier this year.

The image in question was taken by a woman named Sarah, according to Fox Carolina, as she stepped out of a church on Sunday morning. Along with a friend, Sarah claimed she was startled to see the Lizard Man running along a nearby tree line, quickly photographing it with her cell phone. The location of the encounter was reportedly just a mile from the Scape Ore Swamp, an area known for sightings of the lizard man over the last 30 years.

“Went to church with a friend in Bishopville and we saw lizard man come out of the woods and run along the tree line,” she recalled. “Took this picture zoomed in with my phone. My hand to God, I am not making this up. So excited!”

Despite the photograph, Sarah’s sighting wasn’t the only appearance of the Lizard Man recently recorded. According to ABC 4, an unidentified man submitted a 20-second-long video on Monday morning that also purports to show the Lizard Man, taken in Scape Ore Swamp just off Camden Highway in Bishopville. Though the man who filmed it reportedly captured the footage in May, he was inspired to reveal it by news of this weekend’s sighting.

“I saw your lizard man story and it’s given me the courage to send you a video I took in early May. Though my wife believes me that it’s real, she said she would be embarrassed that everyone would think I was a loon so I kept it a secret.”

Though the Lizard Man has been absent from the public consciousness for some time, it isn’t the only paranormal beast to be photographed recently. Earlier this year, a variety of sightings of Bigfoot made waves online, including one hoax perpetrated by the Arizona Department of Transportation, as the Inquisitr previously reported.

Since the first sighting in 1988, the Lizard Man has generated no shortage of local lore surrounding the swamp. Plaster castings have reportedly been taken of the beast’s footprints, and rewards have been offered for its live capture, but sightings of the creature have declined in recent years. First observed by then 17-year-old Christopher Davis, the Lizard Man hasn’t been reported since 2011, when it allegedly mauled a car, leaving teeth marks behind.
