Kim Kardashian And Kanye West Have Another Thing In Common: Poor Sales

In May, Kim Kardashian released her book of selfies, titled Selfish. However, as Radar Online reports, the book has become a sales flop.

“Reps for Nielsen Bookscan told Radar Online that only 32,000 copies have been sold. Considering the reality star has 41 million followers on Instagram, that number is hugely disappointing.”

Radar Online goes on to note that the online reviews have been horrible. If one goes to Amazon, they can read the unfortunate scathing reviews themselves.

“I can recommend the audio version of this book. It lasts 37 seconds. The narrator basically says, ‘On this page, we have an idiot and her cleavage looking into a camera,’ 500 times,” writes Reed Hubbard.

“It’s a little uncomfortable but doesn’t leave pieces behind when you go to wipe like other brands like Charmin and generic brand toilet paper,” wrote Kris.

The reviews on Twitter haven’t been much better.

It’s quite doubtful that the poor sales will impact Kim Kardashian’s brand. The same can’t be said about her husband, Kanye West, who has been experiencing a career downslide ever since his album, Yeezus, underperformed. In 2013, Billboard talked about the album’s huge drop in sales.

“Last week’s No. 1, Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus,’ falls by 80% to No. 3 — the largest second-week percentage drop for a No. 1-debuting album in over a year. It sold 65,000 in its sophomore frame. A week ago it bowed with 327,000.”

Even though most artists would love those sales, it was proof to Kanye’s critics that he was losing popularity. In 2015, Kanye has been having a difficult time launching Swish. The first single, a collaboration with Paul McCartney titled “Only One,” was released on January 1, 2015. It only climbed high enough on Billboard’s Hot 100 to reach No. 35. For other artists, that number wouldn’t be so bad. For Kanye, who is used to having new singles chart in the top five, it was a major disappointment.

Kanye West had a little more luck with his next single, “All Day,” which peaked at No. 15. There is some hype for West’s album, SWISH, but the artist has a severe image problem. Earlier this year, he almost crashed the stage at the Grammys when Beck won Album of the Year. Then, there was that “performance” of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

It looks like Kanye West’s SWISH will receive a fall release date, and it may be released exclusively with Apple Music. If the album is really good and has the right marketing campaign, Kanye West may just prove his critics wrong.
