Zayn Malik The Next Justin Timberlake? How The Ex 1D Singer And ‘N Sync Member Are Similar

Is Zayn Malik the next Justin Timberlake? Since the former One Directioner singer left the successful British boy band in favor of his solo music career, everyone has been comparing him to the likes of Justin Timberlake and Geri Halliwell.

All of these singers have something in common. Not only were they in popular singing groups, but also, they left in favor of their own music career. Out of these three, thus far, Timberlake was the most successful in securing his own solo career. But is Malik really the next J.T.?

Back in March 2015, the heartthrob announced that he was leaving 1D so he could live like a “normal 22-year-old.” Instead of taking a break from the spotlight, Zayn was spotted working in the recording studio with former music producer Naughty Boy.

The ex 1D member finally explained the real reason why he left the boy band. After signing with RCA records on Wednesday, July 29, Malik took to Twitter to further elaborate on his story from four months ago.

According to the singer, he wants to create “real music” and show his true self to the world.

Zayn tweeted, “I guess I never explained why I left, it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who I really am! #realmusic #RCA!!”

His new music label is home to Justin Timberlake, who’s claim to fame was being in the popular boy band ‘N Sync. Malik is also dabbling in a combination of pop and hip-hop, much like Timberlake did during his early solo music days. Timberlake’s work with Pharrell Williams was a departure from the bubblegum pop singles like “Bye, Bye, Bye” and “I Want You Back.”

Some would argue that ‘N Sync’s last album was the perfect combination of pop and hip-hop. It was the first time that the boy band delivered mature songs like “Pop” and “Gone.” The group also collaborated with rapper Nelly on their hit song “Girlfriend.”

Fans are taking notice that Zayn’s been signed to the same record label as Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Prince Royse, and Shakira. It’s a clear hint that the former One Direction member wants to escape his pop music past. It’s also clear that Zayn wants to dabble in an entirely different genre of music.

Like ‘N Sync, One Direction is taking on a different sound with their fifth studio album. The remaining four guys released their new single “Drag Me Down,” which is a different sound from their hit singles like “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story Of My Life.” Since the guys aren’t too involved in the writing process, it’s clear that Malik wants a hands-on approach when it comes to producing and writing music. Timberlake had the opportunity to write every song on his solo debut release, unlike his ‘N Sync days.

Unfortunately for Zayn Malik, he has to wait two years until he can release any new solo material. Justin was fortunate in making his solo debut at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, just a year after he last toured with ‘N Sync. Malik can’t strike the iron while it’s hot, but his fans are dedicated enough to stick around and support him until the time comes.
