That Moment When There Is A ‘Walking Dead’ Crossover But No Easter Eggs

It’s one of the things fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead are hoping for – a crossover between The Walking Dead and its brand new companion series, Fear The Walking Dead. And now we have it! Or a crossover of sorts anyway.

An image was posted to AMC’s official Walking Dead Twitter account on Friday. In it is a blend of characters from both of the Walking Dead series. However, this image is likely from the Television Critics’ Association (TCA) press tour event rather than any potential truth to a crossover event.

It appears unlikely there will be a crossover between the two shows due to the logistics of getting cast members from both the south and LA to meet when there is no way to get them to each other than either via foot or car.

Showrunner Dave Erickson made sure it was clear during the TCA panel that fans should not expect a crossover event between the two shows. He also made it clear here could be no Easter eggs present in the first six episodes of Fear The Walking Dead to tease fans either, much to the disappointment of fans everywhere. Easter eggs in TV shows are tasty little nuggets of information that allude to other shows, events or nods to characters, or people involved in the show or genre. For many fans, Easter eggs are one of the best parts about re-watching TV programs.

“There are no crossover plans right now. I would love to see those stories conflate at some point, but there are no plans to do so… There’s no intention of having Easter eggs or character references.”

The Walking Dead TCA panel included showrunner Dave Erickson, producers David Alpert and Adam Davidson, plus cast members Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Lorenzo James Henrie, and Mercedes Mason.

AMC is currently running a Walking Dead marathon in the lead up to the premiere of Fear The Walking Dead on August 23. You can watch the latest trailer for Fear The Walking Dead which premiered tonight during the marathon here. For all AMC programming scheduling, please go here.
