Wow, Microsoft has finally made something cool for mobile phones

When most people think cool mobile phones, Windows mobile powered devices normally don’t come to mind. This however might be about to change.

Microsoft subsidiary Tellme has announced a new voice access feature for Windows powered mobile phones. The feature allows telephone owners to hit one button, then dictate an action to the phone. These actions though aren’t limited to “call John Smith” as some previous attempts at voice access have offered, but include support for TXT dictation, and information search.

In the demo video below, the phone is told “Fast and Furious in Mountain View, California,” then returns local movie times. The only criticism from watching the video is that the delivery of results is fairly slow, possibly due to the network access speeds, although notably there was a delay on internal functions as well.

Microsoft says the feature will be available in new phones on sale from the northern Autumn (fall) 2009. Kara at All Things D has a copy of the press release here.
