Kraft Singles Recall: Packaging Film May Present Choking Hazard

Kraft Singles are being recalled, as the packaging film may present a choking hazard. Although the recall is voluntary, the Kraft Heinz Company is warning consumers to refrain from eating the cheese product, and to return the unused portion for a full refund.

According to Kraft, the singles are individually wrapped in a thin film — which “may remain adhered to the slice after the wrapper is removed.” As a result, the film could be unintentionally consumed and present a choking hazard.

As reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the voluntary recall was prompted by 10 complaints, which included three confirmed reports of consumers choking on the packaging film.

The Kraft singles recall includes an estimated 36,000 cases of cheese product, which were shipped to distribution centers in the United States, Grand Cayman, and Puerto Rico.

As stated in the press release, the voluntary recall includes one-pound packages of American and White American Kraft Singles “pasteurized prepared cheese product.”

The recalled packages are stamped with the Manufacturing Codes S54 and S55. The “Best When Used By Dates” are December 29, 2015, through January 4, 2016.

According to Kraft, the recalled singles were not shipped to any locations outside the United States, Grand Cayman, and Puerto Rico.

Consumers are encouraged to return the cheese product to the location where it was purchased, or contact the Kraft Heinz Company at 1-800-432-3101 for a full refund.

Earlier this year, Kraft Foods Group initiated another voluntary recall — which included 242,000 cases of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Dinner.

As stated in the press release, the boxed dinners were recalled “due to the possibility that some boxes may contain small pieces of metal.” Although there were no reported injuries, the recall was initiated after Kraft received eight complaints about metal fragments inside boxes of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Dinner.

Although both recalls were in response to customer complaints, nobody reported serious injury as a result of consuming the products.

In response to their most recent recall, Kraft said they “deeply regret this situation and apologize to any consumers we have disappointed.” Although the Kraft Single recall is inconvenient, the company said customers will get a full refund.
