Transgender Woman Allegedly Shot At By 12-Year-Old Boy

A transgender woman in Orlando, Florida, fortunately avoided harm after a 12-year-old boy allegedly fired multiple rounds at her late Thursday night with a stolen pistol.

In a juvenile court hearing this morning, a judge ordered the suspect held in jail without bond on charges of attempted murder and grand theft of a firearm. A hate crime charge could also possibly be added to the list of offenses.

“Andrew West, who identifies as a 26-year-old woman named Shandebine Sherrington, says she felt like the shooter targeted her… She says the 12-year-old suspect… was screaming profanities at her as he fired his handgun,” BayNews9 reported.

“I was walking along Church Street, going towards a friend’s house, when I was approached by a 12-year-old saying he was going to kill me. I don’t know who this individual was and he started shooting at me, chasing me multiple places to shoot at me,” the victim told MyNews13 of Orlando.

The victim apparently turned the tables on her attacker when he ran out of bullets after allegedly firing seven times and missing, and she started chasing him, at the same time calling 911 on her cell phone.

Cops quickly responding to the call reportedly found spent shell casings on the street where the chase occurred and located a stolen Ruger pistol that the suspect allegedly dumped in a field near the crime scene. MyNews13 reported that the suspect’s grandmother said he snuck out of the family residence Thursday night by climbing out of a window.

WESH in Orlando also reported that the youngster is receiving medication for mood swings according to the grandmother. He is also allegedly on probation for the theft of a pellet gun.

WFTV, Channel 9, interviewed the transgender woman at length about the incident in which a 12-year-old boy allegedly opened fire on her on an Orlando street.

Elsewhere in Florida, a teen faces first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of India Clarke, a 25-year-old transgender woman. A suspect, 18, surrendered to the Hillsborough County Sheriff earlier this week on an outstanding warrant. Clarke was shot in the head and the arm on July 21 in a Tampa park. India Clarke is said to be the 10th transgender woman murdered in the U.S. in 2015.
