Kate Upton Reportedly Drops $25,000 to Attend 2012 Met Costume Gala

NY Post’s Page Six is reporting that swimsuit model and dance expert Kate Upton just forked over a cool $25k for a chance to attend the hottest fashion event of the year in New York – the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala.

Dubbed the Oscars of the east coast, the annual costume gala (also known as the Met Ball) celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s (The Met) fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute.

According to to the report, Upton — known less for her refinement and more for her lack of clothing in ads — begged Vogue editor Anna Wintour, one of the event’s organizers, to grant her entry to the fundraising dinner which helps finance the Costume Institute’s yearly expenses.

“She told Anna she would really like to attend,” said a source. “Then she offered to pay for her own ticket. Kate then whipped out her checkbook and paid the $25,000 for her seat. Anna took the check on the spot.”

Besides taking the crown of the top social event in NYC year after year, the Vogue hosted Met Ball is considered by fashion industry experts and style magazines to be the fashion world’s best red carpet event.

This year’s Met Ball, which goes down on Monday, will honor Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli, kicks off the Met’s spring exhibition, “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.”

Sources say Kate Upton will wear Michael Kors to the event and sit at the designer’s table.

Besides Upton, VIP attendees to the 2012 Met Ball include Prada fan Carey Mulligan, Jennifer Lopez, Dakota Fanning and Victoria Beckham.
