New Clear Channel layoffs: 590 workers cut

clear-channel

US radio giant Clear Channel Communications has announced a new round of layoffs, with 590 workers in its radio division to be cut.

The new layoffs, which follow a round of 1,850 in January, will include employees in programming, engineering and customer service. The January layoffs were primarily in sales. Shows canceled due to the layoffs will be replaced by nationally syndicated shows.

Clear Channel also said that it has suspended matching contributions to employees retirement accounts, but would resume making contributions if the company is successful in reaching 90% of its internal cost saving targets.

Big Mistake letting Bubba go from the Monsters – will loose listeners including myself – he made the show and gave me a huge laugh everyday – you should have picked someone else or you should realize the people listen because of the people on the show

You all really screwed up by letting BUBBA WILSON go in Orlando. His antics and talent were priceless to your company and obviously you have your heads up your asses!

  3. Why let Burt Wilson go – Monsters have become known for their music and Bubba was the creative force behind that. I think we'd rather lose Drunky and Tiffany and replace them with on air interns to save money and keep someone who can provide a solid contribution to the content of the show. I hope they hire him as a consultant to write music – less work, more cash…

  4. Here Here to the previous comments!! Drunky or Tiffany would be a much better choice to let go, Bubba brings WAY too much to the show!!! They royally screwed him!!! Clear Channel has definately lost a listen because of it! I don't feel Bubba should play at Miss Monster either, why should he help out a station that screwed him over?!

I wouldn't miss Drunky one bit. The Savannah/Bubba show today was brilliant – made Tiffany sound like a pale imitation, and Bubba was sheer genius. What a huge, colossal, mistake – and the money they save goes straight to Rush Limbaugh? Evil.

  6. Big mistake to let Marty Allen and Paul Rado go from the Mike Trivissano show in Cleveland. They added a lot to the show. Plus, I'm getting tired of Mike pounding on Obama day in and day out. I really think you screwed Martry and Paul…..and the show won't be the same.

The end is not in sight. If you are thinking this is the last of the news about CC's cuts you are incorrect. CC has a unique way of putting the spin on stories to keep the monkeys numb. The deepening emotions and insecurities of the shaking staff at the radio clusters is debilitating. As soon as the one year agreement requiring CC to pay severance to departed, and thats what they call them, is done in July, well you do the math. There is a weak up side to economy but it is only a tremor. CC on air staffers are working triple over time in every market to cover not only extra work but their butts while the upper management knows exactly what the next round will produce. The latest cut is only leading the way as a beta to see what can or can't be managed. My bet is, smaller staffs longer hours and 0 quality. The company is going down like a sinking ship and the employees are just sticks of furniture being cast overboard in hopes to lighten the load. It is a sad day for the broadcast industry. It is an even sadder day for so many professionals that have dedicated their lives and talents to what was once a creative and innovative career. The best measure to take is to get out. It is the old adage …. the best time to find a job is while you have one. CC knows that the employees are scared and they know they have them by the, well you know the rest.
