Parents Furious With Honest Company/Jessica Alba Saying Sunscreen Doesn’t Work

Parents are furious with Jessica Alba and her Honest Company, alleging that their sunscreen doesn’t work, and they have photos of their children’s sunburn to prove it. Jessica Alba’s billion dollar start-up boasts organic and safe products for baby and household.

The Inquisitr has reported that Jessica Alba launched her company when her film career peaked. She didn’t want to endorse the companies of others.

“People just saw me as this girl in a bikini in movies kicking butt—maybe not the brightest bulb,” she said. “It took three and a half years of condescending nods and pats on the back… They were just like ‘You idiot, how are you going to do this? Go back to like endorsing things. Go do a perfume.'”

But now, according to Business Insider, parents are up in arms. They are reporting that Chicago mother Gretta Stabler purchased the Honest Company’s SPF 30 sunscreen at Costco. During a recent trip to the pool, she applied sunscreen to her 6-year-old daughter, Maggie, four times.

“She got really burned on her arms, shoulders, legs face, pretty much everywhere. I was angry,” Stabler said. “I’m very diligent about using sunscreen on my kids,” Stabler explained. “I have a very strong family history of skin cancer.”

An NBC affiliate in Chicago is reporting that recently, the Honest Company cut the amount of zinc oxide in its tubes from 20 percent to 9.3 percent. When it removed the zinc, the company says it added other ingredients to keep it effective. The NBC affiliate says that other sunscreens that use zinc have between 18 and 25 percent as their sun protection ingredient.

E!Online is reporting that unhappy parents are taking to the internet to voice their displeasure with Alba, the Honest Company, and its products. One criticized Alba’s company and its “hippie” products.

“I bought this product from the Costco Warehouse and had a similar experience to the many disappointed parents who have reviewed here. My entire family got a sunburn even though we applied multiple times throughout the day. This was the first sunburn for my children which is so disappointing.”

Another dissatisfied buyer wrote, “I covered myself with this sunscreen and now I am burnt to a crisp.”

The company has released a statement, explaining that a third party has done the testing for the sunscreen, and that the product should be shaken before use, and reapplied often.

Do you think this negative press will hurt the Honest Company and Jessica Alba’s reputation?
