Distribution Deal for Cosmopolis Coalesces And New Film Clip Is Released

The Cannes Film Festival may be over two weeks away, but big business waits for no-one.

Ahead of the festival, Entertainment One (EOne) are closing in on a deal worth $ 2 million for North American and UK distribution rights to Cosmopolis – the David Cronenberg directed big screen version of Don DeLillo’s novel starring man of the moment – Robert Pattinson.

In August 2011,Variety reported that EOne, a previously Toronto (only) based operation was overhauling its business to expand its theatrical distrubution stateside.

With offices now in Toronto, Montreal and Los Angeles, EOne’s other sales and distribution territories include the UK, Ireland, Benelux, France, Germany, Scandinavia and Australia. EOne’s acquisition of worldwide film rights across all media formats (including DVD and VOD) will mean it can support titles with U.S theatrical releases.

Cineuropa reported today that Parisian international sales agency Kinology, helmed by Grégoire Melin, is set to close on already substantial sales for Cosmopolis at the film market during the Cannes Film Festival.

Cosmopolis stars Juliet Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Samantha Morton, Mathieu Amalric and Jay Baruchel. Leading man Robert Pattinson plays Eric Packer, a billionaire assets genius whose financial world and personal life crashes around him in 24 turbulent hours.

Two trailers and one teaser have already been released and today a third film clip came online. Cosmopolis has been selected to compete in competition for the Palme d’Or at this year’s 65th Cannes Film Festival and will be screened at the festival on May 25.
