‘Arrow’ Season 4: Casting News, Plus Spoilers About The Flashbacks

Like other series, Arrow has started production on the new season, and yes, there will be some new characters – good and bad – joining the show in the fall. In fact, a couple of casting announcements also tease what to expect from the season 4 flashbacks for Oliver Queen.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Neal McDonough is coming in as Damien Darhk in Arrow season 4 and he’s different from the previous villains that Oliver Queen and the team have dealt with in the first three seasons. Paul Blackthorne has shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set showing McDonough as Darhk.

But he’s not the only bad guy that has been cast. At San Diego Comic-Con, it had been announced that in addition to Damien Darhk, two other known DC characters would be part of the new season. One is the Batman villain Anarky, and Comic Book Resources has reported that he will be played by Alexander Calvert and will be introduced in episode 2.

“Lonnie Machin (AKA Anarky) is a deranged freelancing criminal who is willing to do whatever it takes to impress a potential employer,” reads the character’s description.

According to The Wrap, the following episode, Arrow season 4 episode 3, will feature Teen Wolf‘s JR Bourne playing another villain from DC comics, Jeremy Tell (a.k.a. Double Down), “a metahuman who can turn his playing card tattoos into deadly weapons.”

While The Flash usually deals with metahumans, thanks to last season’s crossovers, they have come to Arrow, but since Double Down is part of the Rogues, it’s hard not to wonder if he could show up on The Flash as well. With the way these shows cross over, anything is possible.

Another character revealed to be coming in season 4 at Comic-Con is Curtis Holt (Mr. Terrific), “a technological savant and inventor who works at Palmer Technologies under the supervision of Felicity Smoak,” and he will be played by Echo Kellum, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The other two bits of casting news concern characters that will be seen in the flashbacks in season 4 as Oliver’s adversaries. As season 3 ended, the flashbacks saw Oliver board a ship and leave Hong Kong behind, and now, there’s a bit more information out about what to expect from the past in season 4.

Deadline has reported that Jimmy Akingbola will be portraying the “season-long recurring role” of Baron Reiter, a “grizzled, hardened and commanding man, who has no conscience and few compunctions” and “offers Oliver a job in his underground organization.”

That underground organization is Shadowspire, and first appearing in Arrow season 4 episode 3 is one of the members, the “sadistic and ruthless” Conklin, played by Falling Skies‘ Ryan Robbins, as Variety has reported.

While there has yet to be a trailer released with new footage of Arrow season 4 – the show had yet to begin filming at the time of Comic-Con, where that usually happens – there is a sizzle reel out to remind you of what happened last year.

Arrow season 4 premieres Wednesday, October 7 at 8 p.m. on the CW.
