Seattle Mariners Trade Rumors: Mark Lowe A Hot Commodity As MLB Trade Deadline Approaches

Seattle Mariners trade rumors indicate Mark Lowe is drawing a lot of interest. Though these new Mariners rumors don’t reveal which teams have contacted general manager Jack Zduriencik about Lowe, it is clear he will be a hot commodity as the MLB trade deadline approaches. A report from MLB analyst Jon Heyman confirmed that, “many teams” are showing interest in him. It turns out that signing Lowe may have been a brilliant off-season move that could now net the Mariners a prospect.

Lowe signed with the Mariners during the 2015 MLB off-season, agreeing to a one-year deal worth $507,500. It means Lowe is basically making minimum wage right now, making him extremely affordable to any franchise seeking relief pitching. In his second stint with the Mariners, Lowe is also putting up some spectacular numbers. Through 36 innings pitched (34 games), he has a 1.00 ERA, 1.167 WHIP, and has 47 strikeouts to show for it. He is clearly having a resurgent season that could help out a contender.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the team already dealt Dustin Ackley in an effort to improve for next season, so moving Mark Lowe wouldn’t be too surprising now. There had been a number of Seattle Mariners trade rumors about veterans that are set to become free agents, including Lowe, Hisashi Iwakuma, Austin Jackson, and J.A. Happ. As the 1 p.m. PT MLB trade deadline approaches on Friday (July 31), those four players still call Seattle home.

Teams looking for bullpen help include the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Houston Astros. Most rumors involving those teams have centered around bigger names like Craig Kimbrel and Aroldis Chapman, but Lowe could be an affordable option if trades for the top-tier closers don’t work out. There are likely other teams that haven’t announced the need for relief pitching that could also surface as the hours tick down to the deadline.

As for what Jack Zduriencik is looking for in return for Mark Lowe, the price could be simply a prospect that has a shot at making the 25-man roster at some point. Lowe could be a steal for a team with a deep Minor League system and a roster spot to burn. As for how fans will view these Seattle Mariners trade rumors, though Lowe has been really good for the team, most feel it is time to bring in more prospects. It should be easy to deal Lowe, so it’s up to Zduriencik to find the right “buyer.”
