Nevzat Aydin’s Yemeksepeti Sale Scores Big Bonuses For Employees

When Turkey’s Nevzat Aydin’s Yemeksepeti sale went through, the country’s biggest online food ordering service head did something unusual that is earning him a large amount of praise. Aydin paid out large bonuses to the employees of the company. The bonuses varied, but brought forth a strong reaction from the sounds of things.

CNN shared the details on Nevzat Aydin’s Yemeksepeti bonuses. He started the company 15 years ago along with three colleagues and the company has grown to have 370 employees. The company was recently sold to Germany’s Delivery Hero, though Aydin will be staying on with Yemeksepeti in the deal. He also joins Delivery Hero’s executive board.

Yemeksepeti employees are reportedly paid between $1,000 to $2,000 a month, but the bonuses the eligible employees received were typically far bigger than their regular salary. Those who had been with the company for at least two years were eligible, and the payout was based on how long they had been with the company, their performance, and their estimated future potential with the group.

Reports indicate that Nevzat Aydin’s Yemeksepeti bonuses averaged around $237,000 to each of the 114 employees who were deemed eligible. In total, Aydin paid out about $27 million in the process after selling the company for $589 million.

Aydin talked with the Hurriyet about the bonus plan, saying that now many other bosses hate him for what he’s now done for his employees. He notes that not only did they pay the employee bonuses out of the company sale money, they paid the taxes that would be due as well.

Ultimately Aydin said that his company’s success took many years of effort from many people who put in a lot of hard work, so it seems he felt it was important to share the benefits from the sale. Delivery Hero indicates that the bonus plan had been orchestrated before the deal was made, but it approved.

How did the employees react to Nezvat Aydin’s Yemeksepeti bonus deal? Many got emotional, noting that these payouts were large enough to change their lives in many cases. There were tears and screams, along with some passionate thank you letters, though Aydin indicates that he wishes he could have paid more.

Nezvat Aydin’s Yemeksepeti bonus payout is apparently the first of its kind in Turkey. Though some other companies around the world have paid out significant bonuses after company sales, this example definitely stands out above the others.
