What the Glee stars’ future holds has been a topic of intense interest for fans of the high school drama basically since it became apparent that the characters couldn’t believably be in high school for very many seasons at all.

Last summer, the issue of the Glee stars’ future became a bone of contention with “gleeks” after creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that the show’s core cast would indeed graduate and move on to bigger and better things.

At the time, it seemed that the show’s three main stars- Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer- would be packing their bags and peacing out of Lima, Ohio at curtain call for season three, and Murphy said as much then:

“You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic… or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year.”

Outcry surrounding the Glee stars’ future from fans was pretty intense, given that (we imagine) suspension of disbelief is already quite liberal in those who love a show wherein school administrators communicate with one another through the medium of musical performance.

And it would appear that the three will remain on the show in some capacity for the foreseeable future- according to the Glee stars themselves, more storyline in McKinley High awaits. Glee star Lea Michele explains that Rachel, at least, is not leaving Lima yet:

“I’m not going anywhere… I’m going to be 85, walking down the hallways of McKinley High… [Rachel is] definitely going to be a part of ‘Glee’ for a very long time.”

Chris Colfer added that the trio were graduating, but “we’ll still be around,” and Cory Monteith explained that he’ll “be on the show next season for sure.”
