‘Wasteland 2’ Headed To PlayStation 4 And Xbox One With ‘Director’s Cut’ Edition

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are about to get another classic Western post-apocalyptic role-playing game. Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut was announced for the consoles by inXile Entertainment on Thursday with details on the upgrades the game will be receiving. Don’t worry PC owners, you aren’t being left out either.

Wasteland 2 will get a digital and physical release for the PS4 and Xbox One on October 13 in North America, and three days later worldwide. Those that already own a PC version will receive a free update that gives them all of the Director’s Cut content.

The Director’s Cut is part of a full upgrade to the Unity 5 engine and comes with updated environment textures, redone character models, and Physically Based Rendering for improved lighting. Controls are being modified for Xbox and PlayStation controls, plus NPCs and companions have been given new and expanded voice-overs.

New character features are also being added including Quirks. These add a “unique defining quality for your characters” that gives them a special bonus that only they can have. One such Quirk is called “Repressed Rage” and is for those who keep their anger bottled up inside. When a player receives a critical hit in combat, they have an increased chance of scoring a critical hit themselves and do twice the damage. However, scoring a critical hit on an enemy when not enraged will not happen.

The second new character is Perks. These are earned by progressing through the game and gaining Perk Points which can be spent on the boosts such as more skill with Assault Rifles or being better at repair.

Finally, Precision Strikes are being added to combat. This allows a character to target a specific body parts of an enemy for extra damage or to debilitate an enemy. For example, shooting an enemy in the leg will knock them down and reduce their Action Points while hitting them in the head does extra damage and a chance to make them confused or go psychotic and attack their allies. Targeting a specific body part reduces the chance to hit though.

Wasteland 2 was among the first games to be funded on Kickstarter where it received nearly $3 million with only a $900,000 goal. It was originally released for Windows PCs, Mac, and Linux in September, 2014, and is the first official sequel to the 1988 release of Wasteland, considered to be one of the forbearers of the post-apocalyptic genre and inspiration to the Fallout series.
