Planned Parenthood Video Vs. Cecil The Lion: Animal’s Death Worse Than Baby Deaths?

The Planned Parenthood video outraged some Americans, but it seems the world has exploded over Cecil the lion’s death. Now, some in the abortion political battle are saying it is disturbing that an animal’s death is considered to be more shocking than the alleged trafficking of human baby parts.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, the big game hunter who shot Cecil the lion, Walter Palmer, has been forced to close his dental business and go into hiding. Peter Johnstone runs a safari hunting business and he claims the outrage over Cecil the lion’s death is just “huge nonsense.”

To put the controversy in perspective, the charity Lion Aid wants more laws to protect lions, but they also note that what Palmer did was technically not illegal. They also claimed that shooting a lion near the border of a national park happens frequently.

“Cecil was not the first male lion enticed out of the park to be shot by trophy hunters. In fact, the research programme indicates that over the years, 74 percent of the male lions on the border of the National Park have been shot by hunters.”

Regardless, the incident went viral, sparking outrage across the globe. Some have become so angry about the lion’s death that they have compared the animal’s death to human deaths.

“Killing a single lion in 2015 is mathematically equivalent to murdering 400,000 of the planet’s roughly eight billion people. And because Cecil’s six cubs will likely be killed by the next male to take over the pride, Palmer’s wayward arrow and days-later mercy shot may be as devastating to the lion population as the death of three million people would be to humanity.”

As a comparison, U.S. abortion statistics show that from 1973 through 2011, nearly 53 million legal abortions occurred in America. Based upon this premise, some media outlets like The Blaze have expressed bewilderment that the Planned Parenthood video is less popular than a lion’s death.

“On a day when another undercover video revealed Planned Parenthood dismembering murdered children for profit, I strained to think if there might be some justification for ignoring the harvesting of human beings in favor of obsessing over a large feline in Africa…. But I quickly found out that the lion, from Zimbabwe, had done no such thing. Apparently, all it did was die,” wrote The Blaze. “[T]his happened on the same day that a video was released showing lab technicians dissecting the body parts of murdered humans while discussing how much money they could get for each ‘item.’ This footage was completely ignored. Our culture let out a massive, collective yawn, instead choosing to wail over the fate of some random hairy beast in southern Africa.”

Breitbart reacted similarly, saying the “ridiculously disproportionate worldwide response is grosser” than the actions of Walter Palmer. Perhaps due to these articles, the idea to compare the Planned Parenthood video against Cecil the lion’s death has started to trend on social media.

“Trafficking human baby parts by a well known establishment = not news. However shooting an apex predator on the other side of the planet is. Detached from reality much? Just trying to point out we have a MUCH more important news story happening, but you would never know it. The lion story is somehow national news. One thing is certain, someone is paying a boatload of cash for damage control.”

Some say the lack of attention for the Planned Parenthood video indicates a moral issue at work.

“I have seen so many people that I know are pro- abortion who will passionately speak out for animals because they say that animals are innocent and defenseless creatures! What could possible be more innocent and defenseless than an unborn human child? I find the moral depravity and the depraved indifference of this nation to be deeply troubling.”
