‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Will Not Star Henry Cavill, ‘Batman V Superman’ Star Addresses Rumors

As production for Fifty Shades Darker gets closer and closer, multiple casting rumors for the new film have been circulating. One on the more popular rumors was that Henry Cavill would be joining the cast as Jack Hyde. However, in an interview with Magic FM, Cavill dispelled rumors that he had been cast to play Hyde in the movie.

Cavill, known for his as Superman in both Man of Steel and the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, was at the interview with his Elisabetta A. Villa co-star Armie Hammer. When asked to confirm the Fifty Shades Darker rumors, Hammer jumped in before Cavill could answer and stated: “He’s doing it, he’s totally doing it, absolutely doing it, he confided in me earlier, I’m sorry to break your trust…”

However, Cavill quickly responded by denying the rumors once and for all. “It would be a lot of fun to continue this ruse… but I’m not doing it,” he said.

Hyde is a new character that will be introduced in the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey, and is actually Anastasia’s new boss. In the books, Hyde takes a liking to Anastasia and tries to get with her. In the Fifty Shades Darker adaptation, he is expected to be the main villain as his desire for Anastasia creates plenty of conflict.

Cavill’s recent denial of his part in the movie comes after the actor remained elusive when asked about the possibility of play Hyde. “Basically what I can say is I can’t say anything about it right now,” he told E! News when asked about the role of Hyde.

In addition to his denial on Magic FM, Cavill also cleared the air in an interview with USA Today.

“I’m not in Fifty Shades of Grey. I’m for real. I’m just messing with everyone!” he stated in the interview. “The first time around, everyone was asking: ‘Are you Christian Grey?’ I went ‘No!’ But no one cared and everyone kept talking about it.”

Cavill added that he decided to play coy about the matter just to mess around with people.

“This time around, everyone is now still convinced I’m part of the series,” he explained. “Now the question is: ‘Are you going to be in Fifty Shades Darker? ‘ And I thought, I’m going to try a different tactic this time. See what they say. And so I tried a different tactic.”

Catch Henry Cavill in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice when it opens March 25, 2016. Fifty Shades Darker is scheduled to open February 10, 2017.
