Ann Romney’s $1K Shirt Was Not A Gift, Says Designer

Ann Romney sported a $1,000 blouse from designer Reed Krakoff on morning television earlier this week and the designer insists that Mitt’s wife picked the shirt out herself.

A rep for Reed Krakoff said that the designer doesn’t like to play politics and that Ann Romney must have purchased the $1k shirt from a store.

The rep said:

“We had nothing to do with it. She must have bought it from Saks or Bergdorf’s, we definitely didn’t send it to her. It’s 100 percent a Reed Krakoff shirt, but we 100 percent didn’t send it to her. We don’t get involved politically.”

ABC reports that the shirt, called “The Reed Audubon Silk Shirt,” is part of the designer’s 2012 Spring/Summer collection. The shirt retails for $990.

Ann Romney reportedly makes her own fashion choices and does not have a stylist on the campaign to help her with her wardrobe. The Romney campaign, which has been trying to downplay Romney’s wealth to make him more relateable to the middle class, has not commented on the shirt.

During the 2008 campaign, and throughout President Obama’s first term in office, Michelle Obama was constantly watched by the fashion community. ABC notes that Michelle wore a Naemm Khan gown to the White House Correspondence dinner.

Do you think the first lady (and the potential first lady) are over-scrutinized for their wardrobe choices?
