‘Look At Me Son’ Viral Video At Stelly’s Makes St. Landry Deputy Internet Famous

“Look at me son,” a St. Landry, Louisiana, parish deputy sternly told a suspect robber at Stelly’s Supermarket. A Crime Stoppers video of the conversation has gone viral.

Lieutenant Clay Higgins told the young man that the people at Stelly’s are at a prime example of Southern hospitality and, like everyone else in town, he and the local sheriff enjoy eating at the diner.

The July 8 robbery of Stelly’s Restaurant and Supermarket cost the small business owners “hundreds of dollars.” The Crime Stoppers video begins much like other police reports, but took a passionate and heartwarming twist as the officer attempted to address an unknown robber still at large, through the camera lens.

An excerpt from the Stelly’s viral video follows.

“Look at me son, I’m talking to you. The sheriff likes Stelly’s Restaurant, and so do I. The food here is good, and the folks are friendly. We’re going to identify you, arrest you, and put you in a small cell. After that, I’m going to have a cheeseburger here with fries and a Coke and leave a nice tip for the waitress. Meanwhile, your next meal will be served through a small hole in a cell door.”

Lt. Higgins also stated that investigators were able to collect DNA samples from the rock used to smash a window and enter Stelly’s, according to KATC News. The St. Landry officer noted that a “perfect” boot print was collected from the scene, as well.

“Congratulations son, I’m about to make you famous,” Lt. Higgins said in the viral video. “By tomorrow, 100,000 people will have you watched you commit a felony. You will be recognized, and the people that know you don’t really like you anyway, so when it comes down to a choice between you and a $1,000: They’ll take the cash. On behalf of Crime Stoppers, I’m Lt. Higgins.”
