Helen Mirren Shocks With Profanity On TV, Swears About Sexist Movies: ‘James Bond’s Girlfriends Get Younger’ [Photos]

Helen Mirren shocks a proper British show? In a reversal of the image of the prim and polite Dame Helen that fans know from her formal appearances, Mirren was chatting on Good Morning Britain when she uttered the swear word that caused the breakfast show hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway to become temporarily speechless, reported the London Evening Standard.

Discussing a camping trip with former boyfriend Liam Neeson in the 1970s, the 70-year-old actress casually swore about the weather.

“It p****d with rain,” she said descriptively, albeit not in terms fit for daytime British TV.

When Helen realized that she had uttered a swear word on live TV, Mirren tried to make up for the shock that she saw on Garraway’s and Shephard’s faces by rephrasing it.

“It rained a lot,” said Dame Helen sweetly.

Mirren’s initial use of a swear word occurred when she was revealing her love of camping and dishing on her former boyfriend, Liam.

“I love camping, and I still do. My husband (Taylor Hackford) unfortunately doesn’t want to camp. I went camping with an ex-boyfriend of mine, Liam Neeson,” reminisced Dame Helen.

Mirren was waxing eloquent on the conditions of their camping site when she used the term that offended the TV show hosts.

“And we camp in this field, not like an official camping site with electricity, loos and showers — just literally a field. And it p****d with rain, non-stop for like three days,” she chirped.

That was the point where one of the co-hosts apologized to her, but emphasized that such terms could not be used on morning TV.

“Oh, we should apologize — we can’t say things like that first thing in the morning. It’s like one of those moments when you put your foot in your month. Apologies,” said Shephard.

Dame Helen wanted to have a subsequent discussion on why p**s was a bad word.

“Can we have that debate another time or we’ll get fired? You may be the Queen but you can’t save us,” responded Garraway.

However, social media loved Mirren.

“Dame Helen Mirren has to be careful — she’ll get the Shaun Ryder treatment — No live TV in case she swears!! Lol @GMB.”

“Brilliant! #helenmirren being #awkward on #GMB then swears!!!”

Prior to shocking on TV, Dame Helen used profanity when chatting about ageism in Hollywood, reported Us Weekly.

Talking at the Wrap‘s New York Power Breakfast, Mirren responded to a discussion about Maggie Gyllenhaal’s revelation that the 37-year-old actress was rejected for being “too old” to portray a 55-year-old male actor’s lover.

“Yes, I’m sure that’s true,” snapped Dame Mirren. “I’m sure that’s true. It’s f**king outrageous. F**king outrageous! It’s ridiculous, honestly. It’s so annoying. We all sat there watching… as James Bond got more and more geriatric, and as his girlfriends got younger and younger.”

As the Inquisitr reported, Maggie Gyllenhaal charged Hollywood with both sexism and ageism after losing that role.

“There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time. I’m 37 and I was told recently I was too old to play the lover of a man who was 55. It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh,” said Maggie.
