Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert Divorce Illegal, Former Oklahoma State Representative Says [Rumor]

Was the Blake Shelton-Miranda Lambert divorce done illegally? This might be the case, according to a former Oklahoma state representative.

It was just last week that Lambert and Shelton announced their divorce to the world, which soon led to a myriad of speculations about what went down between the couple. In a report published by the Oklahoman, former state representative and attorney Aaron Stiles thinks that the way things were handled in this divorce weren’t on the up and up.

Stiles says that a judge can only seal civil, divorce, and other public court records if a “compelling privacy interest outweighs the public’s interest” based on a law that was put implemented back in November.

It’s believed that in the case of the Shelton-Lambert divorce, the law is definitely being disregarded because the judge can only seal portions of the case subject to confidentiality, but the remainder of the records must be kept open to the public. This is based on Oklahoma law.

The protective order for the country stars’ divorce is being questioned, as the Inquisitr previously reported.

Stiles says that the law is “definitely not” being followed when it comes to Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert.

“Oh, yeah, they’re definitely not following the law on it. I can’t imagine a scenario where you would ever seal an entire civil or divorce case.”

Oklahoma attorney Irven Box, who spoke with Yahoo! Celebrity about the protective order in this divorce case, agrees with Stiles.

“I think it was a favor done… because of their celebrity status. I’m sure that every Oklahoman getting a divorce would like to have their records sealed… but they don’t.”

Box explained to Yahoo! Celebrity last week what a protective order generally means in situations like Shelton and Lambert’s. He revealed that it often has to do with the parties involved not wanting everyone to see what’s inside the documents.

“A protective order in Oklahoma in this particular case simply means that the parties in this case say, ‘We don’t want anybody to know what’s going on in our case. We don’t want anyone to see what’s in the documents. We want the court to protect the documents and to seal them.’ That’s what a protective order in a divorce case is.”

Did the judge do Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert a favor by sealing their divorce documents? If so, was everything done according to procedure, or was the divorce granted illegally?
