Bugaboo Stroller Ad: Model Slammed For Skimpy Outfit, But Many Call Out Jealous Comments

A Bugaboo stroller ad has created a storm of controversy on social media because of the attire the featured model is wearing.

The intent of the Bugaboo stroller ad was clearly to show how their product fits the lifestyle of active moms (and dads). The company, which manufactures expensive baby strollers, decided to use mom and model Ymre Stiekema for the photo that they posted on their Facebook page, but they never dreamed they would be slammed for doing so.

Clearly, from reading most comments on the company’s Facebook page, other women feel some jealousy at the way Stiekema looks. Whether she is a mom or not doesn’t seem to matter in this case. However, the focus of many of the negative comments seem to be the model’s skimpy outfit.

“That top cannot be supporting anything, there is nothing to it! If the image was of her wearing that outfit whilst enjoying a day at the beach or pool then fine, it looks appropriate but really, taking a run with ur child in the park???!!! I understand some runners would wear something like this for a race where they were competing for a win or pb but surely not for a run in the park. I’m not criticising her, she looks amazing and must work hard to maintain her body but it’s just not appropriate for the marketing, would of looked better had she been in leggings.”

Others criticize the Bugaboo stroller ad because of the lifestyle the model had before she got pregnant and how much easier — in their minds — it must have been to lose the baby weight at 23 years of age. As nobody knows her personally, it’s a leap to assume how hard or easy it was for Stiekema to get fit again.

“I know plenty of moms who run and none look like that, because they aren’t 23 or had a 6 foot tall, naturally thin model body before the running or before the baby. Like most advertising, this just isn’t reality.”

But Stiekema is also receiving support in many comments on Facebook, which slam the “jealousy” criticizing the Bugaboo stroller ad model.

“Really ladies? Are you that judgemental or jealous that you have to question what she is running in? Women should support each other not tear each other down because you feel inadequate. I would never get away with wearing that while I run, but great for her!”

In general, from the comments, it appears the Bugaboo stroller ad hit a nerve with women in general, and moms in particular. While it is true that most women don’t look like the fit model used in the ad does, it doesn’t take away from the fact that she is a mom who is passionate about fitness and an avid runner.
