Ed Sheeran Books Recurring TV Role In FX’s ‘The Bastard Executioner’

Singer Ed Sheeran has booked a recurring TV role in FX’s upcoming drama The Bastard Executioner. The dark series comes from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. The 24-year-old English heartthrob will star as an evil knight in the 14th-century period drama that is set to explore the journey of a reluctant knight from King Edward I’s court who is forced to become an executioner. True Blood star Stephen Moyer will appear in the lead role as executioner Milus Corbett.

Sheeran will play the role of Sir Cormac, according to Time. His character is described as an “ambitious and deadly protégé of a high-ranking church elder.” It is not clear how many episodes Sheeran is set to appear in. He joins a cast line-up that includes Sutter’s real-life wife Katey Segal, who also starred in FX’s gritty biker drama, actor Brían F. O’Byrne, Lee Jones, Kyle Rees, and more.

Although Sheeran and Sutter seem world’s apart in the land of Hollywood, Sheeran previously recorded a version of Foy Vance’s “Make It Rain” for the penultimate episode of Sons of Anarchy, EW reports. It appears as though the musician left quite an impact on Sutter with his talents.

Sheeran’s role as a villain is ironic considering the singer-songwriter’s pension for writing love songs. His decision to book a TV appearance is not, however. Sheeran has been adding to his acting resume as of late with a recent guest stint earlier this year on the NBC series Undateable. Sheeran appeared in a live installment of the sitcom as a musical guest.

The “Nina” singer also played mentor to singer Christina Aguilera in NBC’s musical competition, The Voice. FX’s The Bastard Executioner is expected to debut this fall on the popular cable network. Sheeran can also be seen in a live concert special that is scheduled to air on NBC next month. The one-hour special will feature Sheeran’s three-night performance at Wembley Stadium, his duet with singing legend Elton John, and behind-the-scenes footage.

In other news, Sheeran has inspired HB Ice Cream out of Dublin, Ireland. The company has revamped the look and name of their Gingerbread Ice Cream Sandwich box. The cold treat, coined “Ginger-Ed,” now features a gingerbread man with crazy red hair and a guitar to boot.
