Omi Beats The Weeknd, Fetty Wap, And Taylor Swift on ‘Billboard’ Hot 100

Omi has topped Billboard‘s Hot 100 for the third straight week. Billboard broke the news this morning.

“‘Cheerleader’ leads the Billboard Hot 100 for a third week, actually widening its lead over runner-up ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ by The Weeknd (it spends a second week at No. 2).”

Billboard goes on to note that last week, The Weeknd looked to possibly take over the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 since “Face” had only nine percent fewer points than “Cheerleader.” Omi’s hit has earned the Airplay Gainer Award for the first time in its Hot 100 chart life. Omi holds at No. 1 on the Digital Songs for a fourth week and holds steady at No. 3 on the Streaming Songs chart.

Omi recently talked to Billboard about his recent success.

“It’s every artist’s dream. It all seems surreal. Not everyone gets to live their dream. My dream wasn’t to become famous, but to be appreciated, inspiring and to do what I love, and that is my music.”

Omi also talked to Fuse about his current approach to recording music.

“When I started going to the studio, I realized that there was another aspect of music that I needed to grasp before I could pursue this as a career, and that’s where the whole singing comes in. I started experimenting, I started having a feel of my voice and knowing my range.”

The biggest chart move on the Hot 100 belongs to FettyWap‘s “My Way,” featuring Monty, which jumps an incredible 80 spots from No. 87 to No. 7. If the momentum continues, Fetty Wap could soon have the No. 1 song on the Hot 100 — this could be as early as next week. Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen” remained at No. 6 after peaking at No. 2 on the Hot 100 a couple weeks ago.

Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” stays at No. 3 on the Hot 100 while Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” remains at No. 4. Speaking of Taylor’s bad blood, the Daily Mirror believes that the current Queen of Pop has taken a jab at alleged rival Katy Perry. Swift brought a toy shark with her on stage that was reminiscent of the one Katy Perry used during the Super Bowl earlier this year. The song “Bad Blood” is about an alleged feud between her and Swift.

Billboard‘s Hot 100 is now announced on Monday due to the global music release date starting on Friday instead of Tuesday. We will know in just one week whether or not Omi is able to fend off The Weeknd and Fetty Wap in order to hold on to the Hot 100 throne.
