‘Rick And Morty’ Season 2 Means More Meeseeks, More Chaos

Rick and Morty is fast becoming one of the favorites in adult cartoons and it’s one smart, funny, and out-of-this-world sci-fi show that every of age cartoon fan must watch.

Season 2 is finally here, months after season 1 ended, and The Hollywood Reporter talked to Rick and Morty co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland on how the upcoming season of Rick and Morty will play out.

Harmon reveals that creation the season 2 of Rick and Morty has been as much fun and twice as relaxed as how Rick and Morty season 1 was created, but ironically, it has also put more pressure and challenge on the creators since Rick and Morty already has season 1 to build up on. Harmon also notes that Rick and Morty will become more chaotic in season 2 since it will be the season of the best and the worst episodes in the run of Rick and Morty so far.

“[Rick and Morty] gets more chaotic in season two, and I think it’s the good kind of chaos. The universe gets bigger, the characters gets more dimensionalized and overall there are way better episodes than the best episodes of season one, side by side with maybe worse episodes than your least favorite from season one.”

Wired also reports that at the Rick and Morty panel at the recent San Diego Comic-Con, Harmon revealed that season 2 will be following in the footsteps of season 1 of Rick and Morty in the sense that it will continue with its style of self-contained stories. Meeseeks became an instant fan-favorite, to the Rick and Morty creators’ surprise, and it has emerged in several interviews with Harmon and Roiland if there is a future for Meeseeks cameos. Harmon says that they’ve been trying to repress the urge to include more of Meeseeks.

There are a couple of instances where the joyful TV viewer in me says we should’ve done another Meeseeks episode. But overall we had a very gun-shy approach of avoiding that temptation.”

Roiland, however, drops that Meeseeks will surely drop in some episodes of Rick and Morty.

“We didn’t realize how popular that character was going to be, so I don’t know how that’s going to affect us as we move forward. We didn’t think to do a story or do anything too much with him in season two aside from a couple of little subtle, inconsequential cameos.”

Roiland expounds on how crazy it has been for the Rick and Morty team that Meeseeks has rose to fame unexpectedly. He shares that this same irregularity applies with their expectations with Rick and Morty episodes such as that time when they thought the “scammer” episode was going to be the worst one and how Rick and Morty fans hated their favorite sex robot episode.

“You can never tell what people are going to love, which is interesting. It keeps us on our toes. It keeps us from getting too precious about stuff.”

Rick and Morty season 2 premiered last July 26 on Adult Swim. For a complete schedule of Rick and Morty episodes, check out the TV guide here.
