Michael Jackson’s Father, Joe, Hospitalized With Stroke In Brazil

Joe Jackson, father of Michael Jackson, was admitted to a hospital yesterday after suffering a stroke in Brazil. He was in São Paulo to celebrate his 87th birthday, but missed his party due to the emergency.

Albert Einstein Hospital released a statement today that said Joe Jackson is in intensive care, and is suffering from an irregular heartbeat.

TMZ is reporting that the stroke has left Jackson at least temporarily blind. Joe Jackson, who suffers with diabetes, was also feeling dizzy and was rushed to the hospital on Sunday. Doctors in São Paulo and family are deciding when it is best to move Jackson back to the United States.

Joe Jackson was in São Paulo with Angelina Stilitti, the French singing sensation whom he manages. Prior to his emergency health event, Jackson was seen donning his trademark fedora, surrounded by an entourage. He reached out Friday via his website.

“Nothing but love from Brazil. São Paulo is showering me with love and kindness.”

He also seemed to be giving a shout out for all to join him on his birthday, though none of his famous children were in Brazil this weekend.

“Join me on the 26th of July to celebrate 87 full years on earth. The greatest adventure you can take on this world, is to live your life and enjoy the ride,” he said in an invite on his website.

Reports say that $200,000 was spent on the party, accented with Brazilian flair.

“It will be a classic, opulent celebration, with nothing American about it,” organizer Donatto Junior said, according to the newspaper.

Hundreds of well-wishers were expected at the party, which was to include Samba dancers and Brazilian decor and food. The party was hosted by Nexxing Marketing Group.

Jackson is the father of 11, and the man behind the Jackson 5, which launched his son, Michael Jackson, to superstardom. Joe Jackson’s reputation was tarnished by allegations of beatings and child abuse. Michael Jackson spoke to Oprah about beatings with a belt.

“If you didn’t do it the right way, he would tear you up, really get you.”

Variety is reporting that Joe Jackson has suffered three other strokes, the most recent one in 2012.
