‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6: More Gruesome Walker Pictures Emerge

Judging by the images emerging of the walkers in the upcoming season 6 of AMC’s The Walking Dead, it’s hard to see them as a threat to Rick’s gang – or anyone for that matter. The levels of decay indicate that the living certainly do seem to pose more of a threat than the undead currently do. Or is AMC perhaps lulling Walking Dead fans into a false sense of security?

Recently, AMC have released a spate of images for both of their zombie series, The Walking Dead and its companion show, Fear The Walking Dead. However, while the Fear The Walking Dead images have focused more on the new core cast members, the images for season 6 of The Walking Dead tend to be more about the undead characters.

The new images below enforce the fact the walkers in The Walking Dead are crumbling and rotting away. They are becoming so decayed that it is likely at some point they will be nothing more than animated puddles of undead detritus.

The fact that several cast members recently discussed at San Diego Comic Con who was more dangerous in season 6 of The Walking Dead, the living or the dead, lends itself to the theory that the living far outweigh the dead in the dangerous stakes.

According to Walking Dead special effects artist and director, Greg Nicotero, the walkers will never just be walking skeletons, but there will certainly be a level of decrepitude in season 6 that has never been seen before.

“There always has to be muscle; there always has to be something that is motivating the movements. But of course, I was like, ‘Yeah, but the ribcage, and just having the exposed bone…’ You can see a couple of them in the Comic-Con trailer. You know, we’re doing a few things this year we haven’t done before, which is digital augmentation of a couple of walkers. Removing noses and putting a cavity there and taking the area under the ribcage and shrinking it down, kind of Bernie Wrightson-style. For me, that’s just fun and exciting becuase it just gives us more opportunities. I’m trying to think of what they use. ‘Decrepit’ is a word that’s been used in the script a lot this season. ‘An especially decrepit walker.'”

Currently running on AMC, in the lead up to the premiere of season 6, is the Walking Dead marathon. This will run each Sunday until August 23 when a Talking Dead special will follow it and then the very first episode of Fear The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead will then premiere with a special 90 minute episode 1 on October 11, 2015. You can find out more about the Walking Dead marathon and AMC’s programming here.
