Republican Candidates Using Planned Parenthood Case To Raise Funds

With campaigns starting to heat up, candidates are trying to woo voters to support their views and raise funds for their campaigns.

On the Republican side, Ben Carson has been particularly vocal against the Planned Parenthood group. This is following the release of a viral video portraying the organization of having a hidden agenda to exterminate the black community by promoting abortion within it.

The video was made by the Center for Medical Progress to highlight the organization’s controversial ways.

Ben Carson has since then vehemently criticized the group and has gone so far as to put up a petition on his site against Planned Parenthood. The following is his request, as stated on his website.

“Congress must act NOW! Please sign my petition to Congress demanding that they stop all public funds to Planned Parenthood.

“I spent my whole life caring for children. What I see in this video is barbaric. Congress must ACT!

“We the undersigned insist that our tax dollars not be used in any way with Planned Parenthood in light of their Baby Organ Harvesting Programs.

“Please act immediately to stop the transfer of federal dollars to Planned Parenthood.”

That said, some Republican politicians are using the case against Planned Parenthood to raise funds. Starting with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, he is alleged to have sent emails to his supporters requesting them to make donations tagged as “emergency contributions of $35, $50, or more.”

Supporters are also asked to take part in a “flash poll” that asks users to choose which side they are on by asking, “Do you support Planned Parenthood or do you support Life?”

Those who say they support life receive a “thank you” notification and are asked to donate. The following is the notification as it appears on the site.

“I firmly believe the words of our Declaration of Independence — that we are endowed by our ‘Creator with certain unalienable Rights,’ the first of which is life. I need your voice in this fight with me.”

This is as reported by Politico.

Sen. Rand Paul’s website also employs an almost similar tactic. It asks his supporters to sign a petition against funding the Planned Parenthood group. This is what it says.

“I pledge to stand with Dr. Rand Paul in his fight to defund Planned Parenthood and put pro-abortion Democrats on the defensive for their outrageous pro-abortion extremism.”

However, after a user signs up, he is redirected to a donation page. According to Paul’s spokesman.

“Individuals who sign our petitions want to get involved. Unlike Planned Parenthood, Sen. Rand Paul’s campaign is not taxpayer-funded and it takes funds to expose heinous acts such as the selling of baby parts.”
