Manchester United Transfer News: Angel Di Maria Set For Exit

Angel Di Maria’s Manchester United career is looking close to an end as the Argentinian is inching closer to a move to French champions Paris Saint Germain. Not even a year since breaking the British transfer record for his move from Real Madrid to Manchester United, Di Maria has been absent from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States after failing to board a plane to join up with the rest of the squad.

Angel Di Maria has attracted the interest of Paris Saint Germain during his last season at Real Madrid, however, Manchester United won the race for his signature last summer. Since then, Angel Di Maria’s Manchester United career has been a mixed result.

Last season, the 27-year-old had 10 assists with only Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas completing more. Despite that, Di Maria’s Manchester United career has been plagued with injuries and lackluster performances.

Paris Saint Germain is keen on competing for honors both in France and in European competition, and is willing to hand Di Maria a fresh start in France’s capital. The transfer is said to be in the final stages of completion according to PSG manager Laurent Blanc, who also once represented Manchester United.

Manchester United could be ready to replace Di Maria with Pedro or Thomas Müller but, the Van Gaal’s second string squad gave the Dutch manager much to ponder as they capped off an impressive performance against the Spanish and European champions FC Barcelona with a 3-1 result in Santa Clara, California.

After the match, Van Gaal praised his team’s performance and noted that “the balance of the team” was the most important aspect of the performance.

“The balance of the team is the most important thing. Last year we won against the Champions League winner, it was Real [Madrid] at that time. Now we win against Barcelona so it is possible, but we also had a bit of luck. Three balls hit the post but I was pleased with our performance. Also in the second half, when the youngsters came in, you saw a spirit. We had the same amount of chances as Barcelona and that I like the most today.”
