New York Mets Trade Rumors: Yoenis Cespedes May Be Headed To The Mets

According to a report by Newsday, The New York Mets have inquired about a trade that would dramatically increase the productivity of their outfield and starting lineup in general.

The New York Mets are pursuing a trade that would give them Yoenis Cespedes, an outfielder from the Detroit Tigers. In addition to Cespedes, the New York Mets have asked about San Diego Padres outfielder Justin Upton and Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Yoenis Cespedes is a free agent after this season, and Detroit Tigers trade rumors indicate that the team is ready to begin selling their players, as they are falling behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central. Entering Sunday, Detorit is 10 and-a-half games behind the Royals in the AL Central standings.

Nevertheless, it remains unclear if the Tigers plan to trade Yoenis Cespedes before July 31, when the MLB trade deadline expires, per the Newsday report.

Cespedes is due $4.15 million this season before he hits the market as a free agent where he will be a hot commodity. Yoenis is hitting.287 with.808 OPS, 15 home runs, and 55 RBI.

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said on Saturday that the organization is still planning to make some “big moves,” even after acquiring Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe from the Atlanta Braves earlier this week.

“We continue to look at all the possibilities and how those possibilities would fit with where we are right now,” Alderson said. “So the fact that we have several days means that there are other things to be examined and explored. Doesn’t mean we’ll do anything else, but we’re certainly continuing to look.”

A trade that would send Cespedes to Flushing may be one of the “big moves” that Alderson speaks of. Maybe to a lesser extent, the New York Mets could acquire Gerardo Parra from the Milwaukee Brewers or Will Venable of the San Diego Padres, who both appear to be on the block. The acquisition of Cespedes, Parra, or Venable would allow the general manager to send Michael Conforto back to the minor leagues, which appears to be his preference.

Currently, it appears that the New York Mets are the front-runners to add Cespedes if he were to be traded.

Do you think the New York Mets will make a transaction in order to acquire Yoenis Cespedes? If not, what other moves do you see the Mets making before the trade deadline on July 31?
