Katy Perry And John Mayer Call It Quits: ‘My Heart Hurts Today,’ Says Mayer [Video]
Katy Perry and John Mayer have called it quits — again. The celebrity power couple have had an on again/off again relationship for several years but just can’t seem to make it work, although it’s clear they care about each other.
Although neither has confirmed it, John posted on his Twitter account, “I wouldn’t feel right posting anything else before saying my heart hurts today,” indicating that the breakup is for real.
A source close to Mayer and Katy confirmed the news to E! News. While “the insider didn’t offer any specifics as to the reasoning behind [Mayer and Perry’s] decision to break up,” in the past, Perry and Mayer have split due to differences related to “distance” and “trust issues.”
Perry and Mayer first got together in June 2012, when they were spotted snuggling at Soho House in Los Angeles, although they reportedly ended it in August that same year. The hot and cold couple reunited only two weeks after. When John released the video for the song “Who Do You Love,” Perry was in the video. In a 2014 interview, he said his relationship with Katy was one of the best he’s ever been in.
“For the first time in my life, I don’t feel like I’m in a celebrity relationship,” Mayer told CBS about his relationship with Perry. “For me, it feels like something that’s very human.”

The couple previously broke up in March 2015 because “Katy was reportedly having trust issues” and John felt his famously busy girlfriend wasn’t giving him enough attention, reports Hollywood Life.
“Katy and John reconnected once she had a break in her Prismatic World Tour. So, for those few months they had a great time, pretending that it would last — and of course it didn’t.”
However, a source close to the couple pointed out that John and Katy tend to blow hot and cold, so it’s possible they will get back together again soon.
Katy Perry has a lot going on these days, in addition to her break up with John Mayer. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Perry received an Emmy nomination for her Super Bowl XLIX performance. Katy was nominated in the Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program category.
Perry publicly thanked her entire crew, but in particular called out Left Shark, who’s fun-filled moves caused Katy’s performance to go viral.
“Woke up to my first Emmy nomination for the Halftime show!!! V proud of everyone involved especially #leftshark,” Katy tweeted after learning about the Emmy nod.
