NJ Governor Chris Christie Responds To Jimmy Kimmel Weight Jokes

Sometimes you are the windshield, sometimes you are the bug. That is what New Jersey Governor Chris Christie must be telling himself. Governor Christie found himself the target of some overweight jokes at the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner two nights ago.

When asked about the jokes and what he was thinking when he heard Jimmy Kimmel start to tease him at a news conference today and the fiery Governor said that if Sofia Vergara is sitting “next to you to console you… you don’t care what the heck Jimmy Kimmel said.” Vergara was seated at the same table as the Republican governor at the annual event.

Christie playfully added for the reporters,

“The minute he started joking about the president being too thin, believe me, I figured I was in the zone of danger.”

Kimmel was hosting the event and spoke right after President Barack Obama did.

Kimmel said,

“Look, it’s Chris Christie, get him! You know, they say that inside every American governor is a president struggling to get out. In Chris Christie’s case, it’s the only one where you can still hear him screaming. Gov. Christie, I think you might be misunderstanding New Jersey’s slogan — it’s not ‘The Olive Garden State’.”

Christie took the jokes with his trademark sense of good humor. Christie attended the event which was attended by Hollywood and Washington’s A listers, including Lindsay Lohan, Reese Witherspoon, Kim Kardashian and George Clooney.

Kimmel started out his speech making an impassioned plea to President Obama to legalize marijuana.

“What is with the marijuana crackdown? Seriously, what is the concern? We will deplete the nation’s Funyun supply?. Pot smokers vote too. Sometimes a week after the election, but they vote.” Kimmel said
