‘Destiny: The Taken King’ Suros Arsenal Pre-order Bonus Clarified By Bungie Following Leak

A Suros Arsenal Pack showed up at GameStop Thursday evening as a pre-order bonus for Destiny: The Taken King. A sharp-eyed fan of the PlayStation and Xbox shooter shared this information on Reddit where it quickly went viral. So, what’s the deal? Is this a GameStop exclusive pre-order? Bungie’s Community Management team jumped on the case to explain the deal.

GameStop quickly pulled the Suros Arsenal Pack from its pre-order page after it was discovered. This suggests that its appearance was premature, and an official announcement from Bungie and Activision is coming soon. The pack included three Suros Legendary Primary Weapons along with a new emblem to be used in-game.

There was some confusion and speculation about whether the Suros Arsenal Pack was exclusive to GameStop and if it would only be available in the United States similar to the Red Bull cross-promotion. Three members of the Destiny Community Manager team jumped into the Reddit thread to stop any backlash against the developer before it got started. An official response was then posted on Bungie’s website by David “Deej” Dague pointing to the following fine print.

“Early access to Suros Arsenal Pack is available starting 09.15.15. Suros Arsenal Pack can be attained by pre-order of digital and physical editions of Destiny: The Taken King or by the purchase of the digital or physical Collector’s Edition. Suros Arsenal Pack can also be attained through gameplay starting on 01.01.16. Suros Arsenal Pack is not exclusive to any retailer or platform. Subject to availability.”

“This offer will be available to all players outside the United States. This includes pre-order of the $40 and $60 editions (not just the CE) Yes, if you’ve already pre-ordered a qualifying edition, you’re included,” Dague added as further clarification.

The Suros pre-order offer is similar to the Red Bull cross-promotion that is currently running and grants exclusive access to one quest for the first few months of the game. Both the quest and the Suros Arsenal Pack will be available to every Destiny: The Taken King player starting on January 1, 2016. The difference between the two is, as Dague mentioned, the Suros Arsenal Pack will be part of pre-orders worldwide while the Red Bull promotion is only available in the United States.

This threatened to turn into yet another hot button issue for Destiny: The Taken King. This was due in part to yesterday’s reveal of how Bungie is adding more variety to the game’s weapons, and the Suros foundry offers a large amount of flexibility.
