Jeremy Mayfield Hits New Low, House Foreclosed Auctioned Off

Jeremy Mayfield doesn’t appear to care that his house just sold in a foreclosure auction on Monday, to the same lender that originally held the property.

As the only bid in the auction, Carolina Farm Credit put in a bid for $1.725 million on the steps of the Catawba County (N.C.) Courthouse. While Mayfield does have ten days to pay the bills he owes to keep the house, he is reportedly not interested in doing so.

In a statement by the former NASCAR driver, who was suspended indefinitely in 2009, after testing positive to methamphetamines, said:

“I’d be paying for something worth less (to sell). There’s a lot of people in the same situation as me. It will allow us to downsize with less upkeep.”

Jeremy Mayfield reportedly owes $2.38 million dollars on the house in principal, as well as $401,000 in interest in fees. In order to keep the house, he must pay the entire balance. The former driver originally took out $3.1 million in loans to purchase the property in 2006, which features 440 acres of land.

The property’s value is assessed at $3 million, according to tax records, which interestingly enough also show he owes roughly $111,000 in property taxes.

Mayfield also has judgments of over $2.1 million for other unpaid loans and services. the former Evernham driver has also been indicted on 18 felony counts, from alleged possession of stolen goods to one count of methamphetamine possession. Despite all of his setbacks in the past few years, he was reportedly upbeat on Monday, after a court appearance for one of his criminal charges. Jeremy Mayfield stated that:

“I don’t blame anybody (for the foreclosure)—it’s the same thing everybody else is going through when you’re land isn’t worth (what it was).”
