Apple iPhone 6 And iPad Users Fume About iOS 9 Problems

If you are planning on upgrading your iPhone or iPad to the public beta version of iOS 9, you may want to wait. Several people who have updated have complained about losing cell phone service, the device freezing, and lack of stability. Of course, iOS 9 is still a beta version, and Apple even suggested users to do a full iOS 8 backup before upgrading.

The situation has become so dire that Apple no longer is allowing reviews for iOS 9 in the App store. BetaNews describes the situation.

“While the company is keen on getting feedback for the next version of its mobile operating system (just as Microsoft is with the preview builds of Windows 10), there have been concerns that problems with apps during beta testing has led to a swathe of negative reviews in the App Store.”

BetaNews goes on to note that many developers have complained that iOS 9 problems have caused issues with their apps. They believe these problems are definitely due to the instability of iOS 9 rather than the apps themselves. Several on Twitter have also complained.

Despite the complaints, most major media outlets have given the beta version of iOS 9 positive reviews. CNET likes iOS 9 a lot.

“iOS 9 brings changes to Siri, the Maps app, and better search tools. All of which bring Apple’s mobile OS more in line with some of the best features we’ve experienced in both Android and Windows phones and tablets.”

CNET also notes the improved battery life (although some other reviews contradict this), a better Notes app, a much smarter Siri, and public transit information on the Maps app. Trusted Reviews also likes iOS 9.

“While iOS 9 is clearly an update aimed at making the iPad more productive, something it does fantastically well, it doesn’t completely leave the iPhone out in the cold.”

The review goes on to note how much more proactive Siri is as well as the new “Power Saver” mode that is similar to what Android has to offer. It ends by stating what some iOS 9 critics don’t seem to get: This is a work in progress that is not ready for the wider public yet.

By the time the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are released, iOS 9 should be perfected. In order to avoid bad publicity, perhaps Apple should not make any iOS beta previews available to the general public. Have you tried the iOS 9 yet? Let us know in the comments section.
