Manchester City took a 1-0 win today over Manchester United thanks to a goal by Vincent Kompany during stoppage time at the end of the first half. The victory comes with just two games remaining in the Premier League season, giving Man City a prime opportunity to claim its first league title since 1968.
Manchester City was able to take advantage of a corner kick at the end of the first half. David Silva’s sent the ball toward the center of the net where Vincent Kompany was able to head it for the goal.
City’s victory today at Etihad Stadium could be a title-deciding victory. Man City will play Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers during their final two games, while United will play Swansea and Sunderland. Kopmany, however, said that the team isn’t getting ahead of themselves just yet.
“We’ve been waiting for this moment. It’s far from over and we know that, but to give our fans two wins over United this season… we have to finish it off and we have to do it over the next two games… For us to get this result, we wanted it so bad. It all comes down to the dream we had when we were children, and we all want it so much.”
Manchester United was at the top of the Premier League for the majority of the season. City came within 8 points of United on April 8th and with their win today they now lead the Premier League.
