London Tower Bridge Jump Goes Badly For ‘Carnage’ In Cold And Murky Thames (Video)

What do you get when you combine the London Tower Bridge, a cold and dirty Thames River, and a YouTube mis-adventurist hungry for the attention of viewers? A videotaped bridge jump that almost results in a drowning due to a brutal landing that’s uglier than a British dental job.

At the same time, the London Tower Bridge Jumper, Faisal Shinwari, who goes by the now truly justifiable YouTube name, Carnage, is racking up the views with this latest stunt; likely because Shinwari’s jump off the London Tower Bridge ends up being more of a fling of his body and out-of-control aerial somersault that ends badly when Carnage hits the cold and murky Thames.

At the same time, Carnage would later note that it was low tide, saying, “It was low tide but I thought ‘low tide’ meant low current, which is even more stupid. If I’d jumped properly my leg would be broken and I would have died.”

Regardless, it’s an age-old pearl of wisdom that the higher the jump, the harder the water, something Faisal Shinwari Carnage learned the hard way.

Carnage, London Tower Jump, Thames
Faisal Shinwari, AKA, Carnage, about to live up to his name as he plunges upside down and backwards off the London Tower Bridge and into the icy Thames.

As for Carnage’s accomplice and cameraman, his encouragement to Carnage to get on with the London Tower Bridge jump is on a motivational level that may rival that of Tony Robbins in effectiveness. His concern for Faisal Shinwari Carnage’s lost shoe following the derelict plunge into the Thames also shows at least some level of care, though definitely misguided care as Faisal Shinwari Carnage was on the verge of drowning, his shoe being the least of his worries.

Faisal Shinwari Carnage, whose life nearly ended at 17 during this London Tower bridge jump, is a performing arts student, reports the London Evening Standard.

Whether or not Shinwari Carnage underestimated the height of his London Tower Bridge Jump or simply didn’t know that when jumping into water from a high point one should hit the surface feet first in a streamlined fashion, is unknown, though as Carnage later realized, this could’ve broken his leg(s).

Either way, Shinwari Carnage quickly learned upon impact with the Thames that he probably couldn’t have landed anymore poorly; the combination of awkwardly hitting the water and its cold temperature giving Carnage more than he or his jovial accomplice had bargained for.

As the strong and freezing current of the Thames pulled Shinwari Carnage away from the London Tower Bridge, he begin involuntarily sucking in lungs full of the nasty river’s water which, by the way, is often a precursor to drowning.

Fortunately, Shinwari Carnage was able to keep himself above water and stroke toward shore, rescuers finally pulling him out of the Thames and pumping water from his lungs and stomach before rushing him to the hospital.

Among those rescuers was “Lifeboat Chief” Tony Wafer, who warned others of the dangers of bridge-jumping into the Thames. Wafer also noted that Shinwari Carnage was lucky things turned out the way they did following his dangerous London Tower Bridge jump.

“As a lifesaving organisation that works on the Thames, we are extremely disappointed this young man chose to risk his life in this way. He was extremely lucky the outcome wasn’t more serious. We’re glad this young man regrets his actions, but we would strongly discourage anyone from doing anything like this. Jumping into the Thames from a bridge is extremely dangerous. The shock of cold water can make it very difficult to swim and strong currents can rapidly sweep people away.”

As for Faisal Shinwari, AKA Carnage, the aftermath of his London Tower Bridge jump included being in big trouble with his parents and being thankful to the lifeboat and St. Thomas Hospital workers that helped him following the stunt.

“They helped me so much,” said Shinwari. “The nurses were just so nice. They even called my parents.”

And while Shinwari Carnage says he hopes that his London Tower Bridge jump fiasco will deter others from doing something similar, he may need to ignore the thousands of YouTube hits, and instead, focus on his own advice.
