‘Sharknado’ Moves Forward And Lets Fans Vote On Tara Reid’s Fate

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!

Sharknado fans can rejoice in the knowledge that there is still no end in sight to the frenzy. Director Anthony C. Ferrante has already teased plans for a Sharknado 4, and considering the ending of Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, fans of Tara Reid can look forward to the fate of Reid’s Sharknado character, April Wexler. In fact, Tara’s fans can have a hand in saving her character from the impending demise.

The third Sharknado film, which just aired Wednesday night on Syfy, left viewers perched on the edges of their seats as space shuttle wreckage hurtled straight at April Wexler. It seemed April’s fate was sealed, but before the debris could collide with its target, Sharknado 3 faded to black and, beyond that, left fans with a choice.

“You decide if #AprilLives or #AprilDies,” read the screen, asking fans to vote on the fate of Tara Reid’s character. “We’re not done yet.”

Even before Sharknado 3 aired, the Sharknado director expressed interest in keeping this franchise going for as long as the opportunity exists.

“This one has to be successful, but as long as Syfy wants them, we’ll keep doing them,” Ferrante said. “It’s a summer event now. It’s like a blockbuster movie, but for free on the network. People have parties and even kids love it. You embrace it as long as you can embrace it. As long as everyone wants to keep coming back and we have fun with it, I think you do it.”

Ferrante has big ambitions for his Sharknado tales, and as he mulls over where to take the next film, he points out that the story is as much about the characters of Tara Reid and Ian Ziering as it is about destruction and mayhem.

“I want to do international,” Anthony teased. “There are still U.S. cities that I want to destroy. But it’s less about the cities, and it’s more about, what are we going to do with Ian and Tara, and what genres do we want to play with?”

Ferrante admits that the vote is a risky thing at this point. While it certainly seems like a great way to interact with Sharknado fans, he admits he would hate to lose Tara Reid as she is a big part of the Sharknado team.

“I think they’re your leads,” the Sharknado director said. “You wouldn’t do ‘Die Hard’ without Bruce Willis.”
