Uniqlo Sex Video: China In Nationwide Crackdown After Video Unleashes ‘Sexual Revolution’

The Uniqlo sex video is still making waves across China several days after the scandalous footage of a couple having sex inside a clothing store dressing room went viral.

The video hit the internet last week, showing a young couple having sex inside a Uniqlo store in Beijing. The video became the country’s hottest topic and has turned into something of a cultural hot point, but it is also leading to a crackdown across China.

As CNN reported, both the government and private businesses are afraid of the fervor related to the Uniqlo sex video spreading to other areas and creating what some are calling a “sexual revolution” in China.

“That hasn’t stopped streams of visitors taking selfies outside Uniqlo’s flagship store in Sanlitun — one of Beijing’s trendiest entertainment and shopping areas.

“Other places aren’t taking any chances. Hundreds of miles away from Beijing, a water park in the megacity of Chongqing hung up signs banning sex in the pool.

“One of the banners says, ‘The Uniqlo incident was scandalous; there was no winner in the fitting room.'”

Many believe the Uniqlo sex video has awakened a nation that has been sexually repressed for decades. Sex remains a taboo topic across most parts of China and sex education is generally not taught in schools, but a series of high-profile incidents appear to be turning the tide. Another video emerged this week showing a couple groping each other on a public subway, and in June a woman plead guilty of having sex on a street on Hong Kong.

Many believe the country’s continued repression of pornography is also contributing to the incidents.

“If you have easy access to pornographic publications and products like in other countries, you won’t be excited about the Uniqlo video,” Li Yinhe, a renowned Chinese sociologist, told CNN.

Studies have found that young Chinese people are having sex more often and starting younger.

The Telegraph reports, “Young people are having more sex and experimenting earlier on in life. Thirty-seven per cent of first sexual encounters now happen before the age of 19, according to a survey for World Contraception Day 2013. And the percentage of people having sex before marriage rose to over 70 per cent in 2012, from around 15 per cent in the 1980s.”

But officials in China are still reacting swiftly to the Uniqlo sex video. The couple featured in the video has been arrested — along with three others involved in releasing it — and the store itself could face a hefty fine if found to be in any way responsible.
