Taylor Swift Apologizes To Nicki Minaj As Ed Sheeran Addresses Rapper’s VMAs Rant

Taylor Swift has finally apologized to Nicki Minaj over their very brief Twitter feud about the 2015 VMAs. The “Bad Blood” singer was dragged through the mud by the media for making Nicki’s important conversation about race about her.

Taylor Swift apologized to Nicki Minaj after she accused the rapper of trying to “pit women against each other,” following Minaj’s conversation about the MTV Video Music Award nominations.

Swift responded: “I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki.”

The rapper’s “Anaconda” music video was not up for nomination for Best Choreography and Video of the Year on Tuesday. Minaj addressed the VMAs snub as a continuation of the music industry ignoring black women for their accomplishments. Minaj tweeted that only “women with very slim bodies” were applauded for their accomplishments. Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video was nominated for Video of the Year, which includes features from an array of models. The singer felt like Minaj’s tweet was a direct attack.

Swift wrote: “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot…”

Minaj replied: “Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.”

Taylor’s tweet was criticized by numerous media outlets for taking Nicki’s racism argument and making it about herself.

Even Katy Perry joined in on their little Twitter beef. The pop star reminded Swift about her infamous “Bad Blood” video. Perry tweeted: “Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…”

Meanwhile, numerous outlets are claiming that Ed Sheeran is supporting Taylor Swift after her brief feud with Nicki Minaj. However, Sheeran says that his interview with the Telegraph was taken out of context. Numerous outlets claimed that Sheeran was defending Swift on the matter.

“I think everyone knows that Taylor has done nothing wrong in that situation. She didn’t nominate herself for the awards. She just made some good videos and people think they’re good.”

Ed also went on to say that Nicki’s arguments about both body image and race were “redundant.”

“I think the Minaj point is a bit redundant. Her point is that you have to be skinny and white to get a Video of the Year nomination, but Beyonce’s ‘7/11’ is in there, and that is celebrating the female figure in every form.”

Ed Sheeran also took to Twitter to tell BuzzFeed UK that his comments were taken out of context. Although Ed still supports Taylor, he was making a point about body image and not about race. He also admits that he worded his very own statements wrong.

However, Nicki Minaj’s rant about the VMAs had more to do with racism, not body image, as many critics have pointed out. Minaj has invited to Swift to speak out on the issues about race, since the singer’s so vocal when it comes to feminism. But it looks like Swift is done talking for now. It looks like both Sheeran and Swift missed the point when it came to addressing racism in the music industry.
