WWE News: Daniel Bryan Says He Will Wrestle Again

The WWE Universe has not seen former World Heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan wrestle since mid-April. He was forced to vacate his Intercontinental championship due to injury and it was reported that he would be sidelined indefinitely, possibly permanently. But the leader of the YES! movement claims that he will wrestle again.

In an interview with Jimmy Traina on The Buzz, Bryan discussed several topics, most notably giving an update on his condition. His injuries are said to be concussion related, in addition to his troublesome neck that caused him to miss nearly a year. But Bryan says that he will return to the ring and wrestle, it’s just a matter of when (via FOXSports).

“I feel great. And it’s just a matter of getting cleared by doctors. Their whole clearance process is more difficult than people would think…. That’s the biggest issue. I will wrestle again. But it’ll be interesting to see when.”

However, fans should not get excited at the idea of Bryan returning soon, or even this year. With WWE SummerSlam on the horizon, fans might think that the company will look to bring in every big name at their disposal, Bryan included.

But that is not the case. Although Bryan admits to having SummerSlam in mind as his return date at one point, with just a handful of weeks remaining before the big show, it would be a pipe dream to see Bryan wrestle at the event.

“I don’t know. It’s kind of in the hands of certain doctors, as far as them clearing me and what not. My goal was to be back by SummerSlam, and that’s looking less and less likely, and so then you’re hoping to be back by Royal Rumble.”

The last two years, Bryan’s involvement, or lack thereof, within the Royal Rumble match has been heavily scrutinized. In 2014, the live audience passionately chanted Bryan’s name in hopes of him being a late addition and possible victor of the match. That did not turn out to be the case, even though Bryan did capture WWE World Heavyweight championship gold at Wrestlemania 30.

This year, Bryan entered the Royal Rumble relatively early and was eliminated in the what felt like the blink of an eye, sending the WWE and its fans into an uproar. Therefore, the idea of Bryan entering the Royal Rumble next year as surprise entrant and potentially winning the one match that has eluded him would make for a compelling redemption story.

Yet, if he does return, Bryan will have to be wise with his body. With all the injuries he’s accumulated, it’s understandable that he will be treated with kid gloves. Some wrestlers, including WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart believe Bryan will never wrestle again.

That is why former multiple-time World champion “Stone Cold” Steve Austin has reached out to Bryan, giving him advice on how to deal with his injuries and how to deal with becoming an active competitor again.

“Steve Austin is actually an amazing human being and he reached out to me. Imagine how weird that is for somebody like me who grew up in that era where it’s like he’s the biggest superstar on the planet Earth. Yeah, he reached out to me and talked to me about it. He was actually giving me some very good advice as far as like, ‘Hey, when you come back, if you come back, you need to do more of this and you need to be doing this.'”
