Katy Perry Calls Taylor Swift’s Feud With Nicki Minaj ‘Ironic’

Katy Perry is calling it how she sees it when it comes to Taylor Swift. Throughout the majority of Taylor Swift’s promotion for her song “Bad Blood,” which is obviously about the “Dark Horse” singer, Perry has been silent. She hasn’t slandered Taylor’s name at all, but the feud that’s blowing up between Swift and Nicki Minaj lead to Perry pointing out something that’s clearly obvious to everyone.

If you aren’t familiar with what’s going on, here’s a quick run down. After the MTV VMA nominations were released Nicki Minaj tweeted about her video “Anaconda” not being nominated for Video of The Year.

“If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated or vid of the year.” While there were other nominees besides Swift in this category, Taylor Swift took major offense and totally missed the point that Minaj was trying to make, which was that the industry tends to fetish and celebrate Caucasian women, while Black artists that deviate from typical beauty standards are left in the dust.

Swift, clearly pissed tweeted, “@NICKIMINAJ I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..”

Pit other women against each other, you say? Well, that tweet got Katy Perry’s attention, seeing as Swift got a celebrity filled posse for her video “Bad Blood” to take multiple shots at Katy Perry.

In a tweet, Perry said of the whole situation, “Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…” Yep, she went there.

She also followed that up with some major support for her BFF Rihanna.

As for Nicki Minaj, she clarified for Swift, “Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13.”

And, “@taylorswift13 I’m still confused as to why u just tweeted me when I made it abundantly clear…” While Minaj begged Swift, clearly a woman with enormous power in the industry, to take a stand, Swift again missed the point and replied, “@NICKIMINAJ If I win, please come up with me!! You’re invited to any stage I’m ever on.”

Minaj has since went on to Instagram to further explain her problem, capturing a criticism made by Marie Claire about the different standards put on African American women. “As soon as Nicki Minaj — whose black body deviates from Caucasian beauty standards — dares to own her own culture and dance in a similarly provocative fashion, it’s glossed over and relegated to sideline categories of “female” and “hip hop.”

The artist captioned the photo with, “Thank you so much. Nothing to do with any of the women, but everything to do with a system that doesn’t credit black women for their contributions to pop culture as freely/quickly as they reward others. We are huge trendsetters, not second class citizens that get thrown crumbs. This isn’t anger. This is #information. It’s all love to MTV. Kisses to my fans and thank you for my 3 nominations. #ThePinkprintTOUR tonight in VA! Over 15 thousand people. I can’t wait to see u guys.”

As for Katy Perry? She’s probably saluting the heck out of Minaj right now.
