Jerry Seinfeld, David Letterman Bail On Bill Cosby

Jerry Seinfeld is no longer worshipping at the altar of Bill Cosby.

According to report from the Washington Times, the sitcom star and stand-up icon has pulled his support for Cosby’s 2014 biography written by Mark Whitaker.

The book’s Amazon page is now missing endorsements from Seinfeld as well as former Late Show host David Letterman, who clearly wanted to distance themselves from the embattled Cosby.

The blurb from Jerry Seinfeld read as follows.

“I know certain religions forbid idol worship. If anyone ever told me I had to stop idolizing Bill Cosby, I would say, ‘Sorry, but I’m out of this religion.’ So if you want to join the Religion of Cosby, as I did back in 1966, Mark Whitaker’s wonderful new book would be our Bible.”

Letterman was a bit lighter with the religious imagery, but he was no less complimentary.

“Bill Cosby has contributed more to comedy, television, education, and humanitarian causes than any person I know. Actually any hundred people I know. And he’s still funny. It’s really not fair.”

Cosby: His Life and Times initially came out to heavy fan fair and received endorsements from the men above as well as a plethora of media outlets and celebrity colleagues like Billy Crystal.

It has since been snowed under by criticism over how it ignored the 40+ sexual assault allegations that numerous women have leveled at the aging comedian.

Whitaker, the book’s author, has even criticized it, apologizing for how he went easy on Cosby and didn’t pursue the charges “more aggressively.”

In a previous report from Inquisitr, President Obama even got in on the backlash against Cosby. Here are his comments.

“If you give a woman — or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge — a drug and then have sex with that person without consent, that’s rape. Any civilized country should have no tolerance for rape.”

At this point, it appears that one of the only supporters Cosby has left is wife Camille Cosby, who some reports claim, knew about his philandering, and allegedly said she “created him” and “knew what I was getting and we’ll fix this [the rape allegations].”

She allegedly added that the press was “making him out to be such a bad guy, a monster” and noted that “people are jumping ship.”

A source close to the family also claimed that she didn’t “believe that Bill provided drugs and had sex with women without their consent.”

What do you think, readers? Were Jerry Seinfeld and David Letterman wise to pull their support from Bill Cosby? Do you think he’s a rapist?
