Shelter Dogs Saved From Euthanasia Thanks To Viral Photo Still Need Adoption

Two shelter dogs were saved from euthanasia thanks to a viral photo posted just in time to spare the adorable pups from certain death at a kill shelter in Georgia.

The photo of the hugging shelter dogs went viral, and social media saved the day for Kala and Keira. They were saved at the last minute when the heart-wrenching photo made it online. The image shows Keira — who seems to sense what is about to happen — hug Kala fiercely.

The image was posted to Facebook by Angels Among Us — a pet rescue organization that saves animals from kill shelters — in a desperate effort to save the sweet shelter dogs before they were taken away. The original note posted on Monday — mere hours before their time at the shelter expired — hit a raw nerve on users, as it was written as if Kala was putting their precarious situations into her own words.

“I’m Kala. This is Keira. We’re so scared in here. The people working in the shelters see how scared we are but just told each other that today is our deadline. We have to have someone rescue us or we’ll be ‘next.’ Keira is black and not a ‘real boxer,’ just a mix. She’s so brave and tells me it will be okay no matter what happens. She tells me to be brave too but I don’t know if I can be. Can you see our faces. Keira knows what will happen. You can see it in her eyes. She’s putting on a brave face for sure but I can feel her heart beating fast while I’m clinging to her. If no one saves us, someone will take her away from me. I’ll see her as she goes down the hallway. She won’t come back and I’ll cry. They’ll come for me next and I won’t be as brave. We’ve comforted each other while we were here. She gave me hope when I had none. Now it’s over. Unless…”

Monday was the shelter dogs’ last day at the facility, according to Angels Among Us. “This is as urgent as urgent can get. We really don’t have time to spare. We have no fosters available.” the group pleaded.

In two-hours and six-minutes, the local community answered the desperate request to spare the shelter dog’s lives. They had been rescued and were in a car on their way to a vet to get checked out and receive their vaccines.

However, the shelter dogs who have stolen countless hearts are still in need of a permanent home. As of the latest update posted to Facebook, Kala and Keira are safe in Angels Among Us care, but need someone to adopt them.

Despite the cruel fate the shelter dogs faced, Angels Among Us defends the facility, which serves increasing demand to save animals in need, but can unfortunately only accommodate them for a certain number of days. The pet rescue organization says the photo was provided by the shelter.

“It is so easy to say, why won’t the shelter do something but they are the ones reaching out to us begging for help. In a perfect world they would be empty as every animal should be loved and in a home. We appreciate the shelter getting this picture to us and allowing us to share it with our followers! We can do amazing things when we all work together!”

The shelter dogs are still waiting for a loving family to adopt them and give them a permanent home.
