Sustainable Forestry Initiative: Non-Profit Organization Sets Record By Planting 200,000 Trees In One Hour

Presently in the green community, its members are mostly backing two of its movements: renewable energy technology and organic farming. However, there are other movements that need just as much attention like improving reducing, reusing, and recycling methods or just simply educating.

One such movement is reforestation. Because of mankind’s overused need for paper and wood, deforestation has destroyed numerous ecosystems, especially in the Amazon Rainforest. Ergo, many non-profit organizations as well as pro-green movement companies are doing what they can to counter this. Lockheed Martin, for example, are converting bomber jets to drop “tree bombs” for reforestation. They can drop up to 900,000 of them per day.

However, not everyone has the money or the connections to innovate reforestation like what Lockheed Martin is doing. Some actually have to follow Johnny Appleseed’s lead and plant by hand. That is what makes Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) amazing. They don’t have the innovation but they do have the perseverance, enough to set a record of planting 200,000 trees in one hour.

SFI
SFI initiated a world record of how many trees a team of 25 to 100 people can plant in an hour.

For those unaware of what SFI is, they are an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. They work with conservation groups, local communities, resource professionals, landowners, and many others for responsible forest management.

However, SFI is branching out to the public, and they’ve done so by setting a new world record for the most trees planted by small teams in one hour, as reported by Powerful Primates. In order for this record to be established, SFI built hype for it by making it into a competition. Teams consisting between 25 to 100 people were sent out to plant trees. The team who planted the most won the honor of being the record holder. However, there was one stipulation: more than 40,885 trees had to be planted because that was the current record. SFI quadrupled that number by planting 202,331 trees.
