WWE News: Upper Management Wanting Kevin Owens To Fail, Why Did He Tap Out At ‘WWE Battleground’?

WWE NXT stand-out, now WWE main roster stand-out, Kevin Owens has made a huge impression on WWE since his arrival. He has a proven fan base, which is a big reason someone like WWE Chairman Vince McMahon likes him. Meanwhile, Triple H sees him as a future talent who could be huge for the company from now into the future.

However, some want him to fail.

The following is according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer.

“To again explain this: there were two schools of thought on Kevin Owens from the start and the basic gist was that some people thought that he was going to make it and some people thought he wasn’t going to make it, and those who thought he wasn’t going to make it made sure that he got every opportunity to make it or else they would be wrong. You know what I mean? I shouldn’t say they would be wrong, they wouldn’t prove that they were right. So now whether he makes it or he doesn’t make it, there is a game going on and we’re in the middle of the game.”

Many were high on Kevin Owens from day one. They felt that he was a star who just needed to be given the opportunity. He was given such, and hit it out of the park. Yet now, we’re seeing Owens lose a few straight matches to John Cena. His last wasn’t just any loss, but a tap out to the 15 time World Champion. While tap outs happen, it does look negative in the eyes of the casual fan, which is who WWE wants to attract more of.

Cena and Owens

Last year, Kevin Dunn was in Vince’s ear regarding WWE NXT. He spoke negatively regarding several stars from there such as Paige, Adam Rose, and Bo Dallas. He didn’t stop with them, and has been playing down the entire system for some time. It is thought that he is the main detractor of Owens right now. Since he has a big voice in WWE, especially for Vince, his word is as good as gold in some capacity.

Meanwhile, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are both big within the company and with the WWE Superstars and Divas. They also are big on the talent from NXT. Triple H hired every single one of them, and made sure to give them all an area to learn the best that they could. He also stacked the developmental territory with great teachers and mentors. There is a reason why the women of NXT are so beloved among many.

It is thought that once Triple H and Stephanie take over WWE, Dunn will be one of the first to go. It is thought that they are not fans of his, which would make a lot of sense. We may be seeing an issue with Kevin Owens being caught in the middle of a corporate battle. Triple H wants something, and Kevin Dunn does not. Therefore, one or the other happens. Vince is trapped between what his son-in-law wants versus what his long time confidante wants.

Kevin Owens could merely be just part of the things they are at odds about or NXT entirely. His tap out at WWE Battleground may have simply been a case of one part of management stretching their power over the other. Clearly, Triple H controls the NXT territory, so he will be high on anything from it, while Dunn wouldn’t want to be. So, this could be much bigger than what will happen with Owens.
